Job Responsibilities

  • Policy Development and Implementation:
    • Develop and revise the Library Policy in alignment with university strategies

  • Resource Provision:
    • Ensure the availability of up-to-date information resources in all formats

  • ICT Adoption:
    • Coordinate the use of ICT in information management for quality library services

  • Resource Organization:
    • Formulate policies to organize library resources using international standards

  • Library Services Management:
    • Establish and promote quality library services to support teaching, learning, and research

  • Library Space Design:
    • Participate in designing physical and virtual library spaces conducive to scholarship

  • Staff Planning:
    • Recruit, train, appraise, and motivate library staff for high-quality service delivery

  • Information Literacy Programs:
    • Design and deliver programs to support academic success

  • E-learning Services:
    • Develop e-learning library services for users outside the physical university

  • Outcomes Assessment:
    • Monitor and evaluate library products

  • Academic Administration:
    • Participate in library committees and other academic administration tasks

  • Job Qualifications

  • Educational Background:
    • A Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences, specializing in IT/Computer Systems/Information Systems, from a recognized institution

  • Work Experience:
    • At least twelve (12) years of working experience, including three (3) years as a Systems Librarian or equivalent

  • Leadership Training:
    • Completion of a leadership and management course lasting at least four (4) weeks cumulatively

  • Technical Skills:
    • Familiarity with Library Management Systems (e

      , KOHA), Digital Repositories (e

      g

      , DSpace), and Online Journal Systems (OJS)

    • Knowledge of standards like MARC21, HTML, SQL, MySQL, Z39

      50, and UNIX

    • Proficiency with LINUX server operating systems and data protection laws

  • Policy and Procedure Implementation:
    • Experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures in systems development

  • Instructional Skills:
    • Ability to prepare instructional materials for library systems

  • Communication Skills:
    • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both oral and written
