secThis role entails overseeing the operations and maintenance of AC and HVDC substations, as well as asset management, to ensure that the Company fulfills its mandate regarding operations and maintenance.
i) Coordinating the formulation of policies and programs for substation projects, primary equipment maintenance, and expansion initiatives
ii) Collaborating with power system stakeholders to facilitate the operational functions of substations
iii) Establishing linkages with other sections and units within the directorate to ensure effective power system protection and asset management in alignment with transmission grid and Interconnector codes
iv) Managing staff performance, career progression, capacity development, and skill deployment
v) Ensuring adherence to quality standards within the Division
vi) Overseeing the development of scopes of work, specifications, and evaluations for outsourced works procurement
vii) Conducting regular meetings with substation engineers and maintenance contractors to review progress and plan future activities
viii) Monitoring the quality of work execution and progress of maintenance contracts
ix) Planning reinforcement projects and addressing technical matters related to substation maintenance
x) Ensuring compliance with asset management system standards and industry best practices
xi) Generating progress reports on substation maintenance activities
xii) Managing switching operations for maintenance and repair tasks as necessary
xiii) Verifying and recommending payment claims from contractors
xiv) Coordinating the commissioning and energization of completed substation projects
xv) Conducting analysis on asset management data to support maintenance investment planning, risk analysis, and spares inventory management
xvi) Providing technical leadership and guidance to regional teams on substation e-plant, HVDC, control, and asset management
xvii) Monitoring the health indices of transmission assets and generating work orders for maintenance needs
xviii) Developing and implementing technological innovations to improve efficiency
xix) Supervising, evaluating, and identifying staff training needs
xx) Preparing annual budgets, procurement plans, and work plans
i) A master’s degree in a relevant field is required
ii) A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
iii) Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK)
iv) Membership as a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK)
v) Completion of a Management Course lasting at least four (4) weeks from a recognized institution
vi) A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant work experience
