secTerms of Service: Permanent and Pensionable.
i) Ensuring all activities adhere to the laboratory’s quality assurance/quality control system, particularly ISO/IEC 17025, and implementing Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) where applicable
ii) Adhering to set Turnaround Time (TAT) for sample submissions and meeting clients’ testing requirements with the correct methods/standards
iii) Managing lab materials efficiently and cost-effectively to achieve required TAT and result accuracy
iv) Ensuring accuracy, reliability, and acceptable repeatability/reproducibility of results and test data
v) Implementing standard operating procedures in specialized laboratories
vi) Validating and applying new analytical techniques and kits
vii) Overseeing analytical work and analysis
viii) Managing and safely disposing of samples and specimens
ix) Maintaining and preserving specimens and cultures
x) Establishing policies and procedures for recording and safely storing experimental data
xi) Implementing policies and procedures for managing reagents and consumables
xii) Developing plans and procedures for maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment
xiii) Authoring, reviewing, and approving technical documentation, protocols, and reports
xiv) Ensuring equipment maintenance and calibration, reporting deficiencies appropriately, and maintaining a regular maintenance log
xv) Providing in-house laboratory training
xvi) Training and supervising subordinate personnel and analysts, staying updated with analytical standards techniques
xvii) Organizing workload and allocating resources according to workload
xviii) Committing to continuous improvement through adherence to ISO/IEC 17025 quality systems
xix) Assisting the Nominated representative in coordinating and conducting internal audits for continuous system improvement
xx) Following up on non-conformances and ensuring effective closure, with proposed corrective actions to prevent recurrence
xxi) Preparing reports, writing technical papers, and delivering technical presentations as needed
xxii) Undertaking any other duties assigned by Management
i) Have a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant work experience, with at least three (3) years in the position of Assistant Director, Laboratory Services/Managerial position in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, or its equivalent in either the public or private sector
ii) Hold Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade of C Plus (C+) or equivalent
iii) Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Applied Biology, Food Technology, Analytical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
iv) Hold a Master’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: Applied Biology, Food Technology, Analytical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
v) Have published a minimum of three (3) peer-reviewed publications in ISI-indexed journals
vi) Demonstrate excellent knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, ISO 9001:2015, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), and Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards
vii) Undergo training on quality and risk management
viii) Exhibit the ability to work with minimum supervision
ix) Have experience in supervising a team
x) Demonstrate satisfactory capability in applying relevant testing protocols
xi) Possess proficiency in computer applications
xii) Complete a management course lasting no less than four (4) weeks, or its equivalent, from a recognized institution
xiii) Meet the requirements outlined in Chapter 6 of the Constitution
