Job Description

The candidate will create and produce aircraft seat covers, curtains, and carpets according to established standards, enhancing Kenya Airways' reputation while meeting the regulations set by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA).

Job Responsibilities

- Design and fabricate aircraft seats for all types of aircraft according to seat structure specifications

- Draft patterns, cut materials, and create productivity samples

- Install aircraft carpets, including drafting, cutting, edge locking, and fitting

- Maintain aircraft seat frames by designing and installing Velcro attachments, replacing worn-out components

- Manufacture spare seat covers for all Kenya Airways aircraft, supply them to storage

- Craft aircraft curtains by designing, drafting, cutting, stitching, press buttoning, and fitting

- Produce soundproof covers, repair worn-out ones

- Manufacture stretcher case covers with fire block lining

- Make demonstration kit bags, baby bassinet covers, and magazine pockets

- Implement safety belt color-coding

- Ensure each aircraft fleet has clean spare seat covers available at all times

- Promptly replace soiled or damaged linen in aircraft

- Collect, sort, tag, and store clean seat covers and curtains from laundry, pack them for storage by aircraft type

- Maintain and care for upholstery sewing machines

- Certify seat covers for storage suitability

Job Qualifications

- Diploma in tailoring and dressmaking or equivalent qualification

- Possesses Government Trade Test 2 certification in tailoring and dressmaking

- Proficient in communication skills

- Received vendor training

- Familiar with company procedures and documentation

- Knowledgeable in pattern drafting and designing

- Able to interpret designs effectively

- Experienced in obtaining workshop approvals

- Has 5 years of experience working in a busy upholstery shop

  - Demonstrated understanding of health and safety principles, including risk assessments and their practical application
