Job Description

The Kenya Red Cross Society stands as one of Kenya's foremost humanitarian organizations, dedicated to delivering timely, effective, and innovative aid with respect, solidarity, and accountability to all stakeholders, communities, and affected populations.

The Society is currently in search of a qualified individual to assume the role of Country Finance Officer, reporting directly to the Country Manager of the Danish Red Cross.

Purpose:

The primary objective of this role is to offer support to the Danish Red Cross country team and collaborate with the country office in overseeing finance management, budgeting, reporting, and implementation of action plans. This includes ensuring adherence to donor-specific guidelines and DRC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), as well as providing input on financial assessments of projects and programs within the DRC region/country.


Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating the preparation of contracts, action plans, and annual/quarterly program budgets, along with financial reporting to donors, ensuring compliance with donor guidelines and DRC SOPs

  • Collaborating with a dedicated ICA to establish country-level grants and projects within the DRC accounting system

  • Monitoring program budgets and expenditures, ensuring alignment with donor and DRC requirements

  • Contributing to financial assessments of the DRC region/country's project and program portfolio, and tracking allocated grants

  • Conducting quality control of cash requests and financial statements from partners, processing payment requests through the DRC cash transfer system

  • Developing and updating grant income and expenditure budgets for overall programs in the country

  • Identifying capacity development needs and supporting the DRC Country Team in enhancing the financial management capabilities of the National Society

  • Undertaking field visits to provide on-site support and capacity development in financial management for KRCS and, as needed, the DRC country team

  • Ensuring timely monthly reporting of country office accounts, including reconciliations and processing payments


Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance management, accounting, or a related field, along with relevant professional qualifications

  • At least five years of field-level work experience with recognized organizations, focusing on financial management, accounting, donor reporting, and auditing

  • Proficiency in multitasking within diverse environments, with sound knowledge and skills in budget planning and finance management

  • Demonstrated ability to work across the project cycle management
