Job Description

The Human Resource Officer (HRO) is tasked with overseeing employee relations, welfare, and HR data and records. This role entails data entry, HR file updates, and documentation preparation for managers and employees. The HRO ensures all HR data is accurately managed and staff are appropriately oriented and settled in.

Scope of the Role:

  • Internal advisor and technical expert on HR matters
  • Interpretation and enforcement of Human Capital Policies and employment regulations
  • Member of the internal client's management team
  • Facilitator of best practices exchange across different organizational functions
  • Leader in people management and employee relations


Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain up-to-date HR records, including personal data, absenteeism, and leave management
  • Develop innovative welfare programs and address staff welfare issues promptly
  • Design and implement Health and Safety programs
  • Support annual performance management processes and ensure job descriptions are current
  • Assist management in talent management and training implementation
  • Ensure HR processes comply with legal, regulatory, and internal frameworks
  • Manage discipline and grievance processes effectively
  • Provide HR reports and analysis for management decision-making


Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field (preference for Human Resources discipline)
  • Postgraduate diploma in Human Resource Management from a recognized institution
  • 3 years' experience in HR generalist, management, or business partner role
  • Proficiency in HR technical proficiencies, coaching, employee development, and process improvements
  • Experience in employee relations, change management, and team development
  • Certification with IHRM or a Professional HR Body
  • Current HR Practice License
  • Proficiency in ICT

Key Competencies:

  • Profound knowledge of specific HR technical areas
  • Familiarity with the Red Cross operations in Kenya
  • Understanding of refugee operations programs and projects, with problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with influence at senior levels
  • Thorough understanding of employment laws in Kenya
  • Strong business ethics and ability to handle confidential information appropriately
